Here’s your AFC Playoffs picture starting this coming weekend!

Jacksonville Jaguars at Pittsburgh Steelers

*winner plays New England Patriots in Foxboro Stadium.

Tennessee Titans at San Diego Chargers

*winner plays Indianapolis Colts in RCA Dome.

My thoughts:

The Titans visit Qualcomm and this should be an easy route for LT and Shawne Merriman. No contest, especially if VY‘s knee is messed up after the Colts game last night. I’m calling the Chargers by at least 15 points. The Chargers then visit Indy. It was a Sunday night when the Chargers last met the Colts. They were completely healthy and the Colts were anything but, and had Vinatieri made that field goal at the end of the game the Colts would have won. This proves that a healthy Chargers can only barely stand up a second-and-third string Colts. It won’t be easy, but the Colts will win by 10 points this time.

If you remember, the Patriots almost lost to four teams this season and two of them are in the playoffs. The road to the Super Bowl goes through Foxboro, right? Not exactly. The Steelers were already embarassed by the Jaguars a couple of weeks ago and were embarassed even worse by the Patriots before that, so I’m calling the Steelers will be out in the first round again. The Jaguars will head to Foxboro and I honestly believe the Jaguars have a better chance of beating the Patriots than any other team in the playoffs. I don’t have a prediction because we’re talking about two solid offensives (one in passing and one in rushing), and two defenses who are about equal in lethality.

Part of me wants the Patriots to win so the Colts will have another chance, but part of me wants them to be embarassed as soon as possible. The Colts have already proven they can be 10 points ahead of the Patriots with a banged-up squad and the Colts have already beaten the Jaguars twice (once with a thin roster) so whoever the Colts meet they will win, I think.

There’s the AFC picture and my comments. Do you agree/disagree?

Later, the other side (NFC) and who the Colts will meet in the Super Bowl…

The end of the ’08 regular season comes for the Colts tonight at home (8:15pm, Channel 13) against AFC South division foe, Tennessee Titans. The Colts already have their playoff picture painted at No. 2 in the AFC (but No. 1 in our minds, right?), home field advantage guaranteed for the first game, a first-round bye, and their 5th consecutive AFC South title. Not bad for coming out of easily the toughest division in the league. Chances are, though, the Colts are going to have the toughest road to the Super Bowl too. The Colts will probably be playing the Jaguars in the second round, easily the toughest team in the league in the last half of the season.

Remember, this game is the last game in The Dome…the Colts home since they moved to Indy in ’84-’85. Since 2004, the Colts are 28-3 at home – the best record in the league!

So, tonight, if the Titans win they’re in…and the Browns are out. It’s as simple as that. So while we’re resting our starters, the Titans are coming full steam ahead as their season is on the line. Who cares? 13-3 after the season we’ve had is amazing! Then again, should the Colts give Marvin Harrison some snaps, just to get him warm again…Why? That’s right, if you haven’t already heard (as it’s plastered across Indy television recently)…MARVIN PRACTICED ON THURSDAY!!! It looks like we’re going to have a healthy lineup for the playoffs after all!!!

How much sweat will Jim Sorgi work up tonight should Peyton and Marvin need a few extra snaps to work on their timing?

Also, click here and see what Bill Polian and Bob Sanders talked about yesterday!

The Colts play there last regular season game ever in the RCA (Hoosier) Dome this sunday, and I never really thought about it, but it is kinda sad to think about it being gone. As a kid growing up in Indiana I have always enjoyed football much more than I ever did basketball, which pretty much made me an outcast here in the Hoosier state, but I didn’t care. The dome has been in Indiana all my life, and I can remember as a kid riding in my parents truck around I-465 and always seeing the dome in the distance, and just being fascinated with it. My parents would try to point out Market Square Arena, where the Pacers played before the fieldhouse was built, and it just looked trashy compared to the dome. I have seen the Colts play several times and honestly there is not a bad seat in the entire place, unlike the Conseco Fieldhouse where I have been stuck behind a beam before, which makes it pretty hard to watch the game.

My fondest memory has to be my senior year of football when I got to play at The RCA Dome. Even though my high school and the oppositions high school could not even come close to filling even a quater of the seats it was still pretty loud. Just everyone screaming and it echoing from from the roof, and coming back down on to the field. It was very exciting, especially since we won 28-0.

It will be a sad day when the dome is replaced, but until then we have one regular season game, and at least one playoff game to see our Indianapolis Colts, play in the Dome so lets enjoy it while it’s here, and respect the history that it has brought us. Because without the RCA Dome Irsay may have never moved the colts to Indy in the first place.
