Cornerback Justin Tryon, a former Indianapolis Colt, had a rough time during the opening kickoff game of the 2012 NFL season on Thursday night. Tryon, who was signed by the New York Giants last October after being released by the Colts, was burned over and over in front of a national audience watching the World Champions fall to the Dallas Cowboys.

Tryon, who is second on the Giants’ depth chart at the left cornerback position, was put into the game at the right side spot due to two injuries. Tryon came into the game with the opportunity to step up and bail out the Giants’ weakened secondary, which was getting abused by the Cowboys’ passing game. The end result was two touchdowns, and a late game-sealing 11-yard third down pass on Tryon’s head.

During his tenure with the Colts, Justin Tryon played in 15 games, but started only six. The five-year veteran also had 39 tackles, but gathered no interceptions and caused no fumbles while with Indianapolis. The Colts picked him up in a trade with the Washington Redskins in September of 2010, and released him just over a year later. Tryon was picked up by the Giants soon after, where he won a Super Bowl XLVI ring in a back-up role.

On Thursday night, the Cowboys repeatedly targeted Tryon, eventually turning third-string wide out Kevin Ogletree into an overnight sensation. The Indianapolis secondary might be a weak link for their team as well, right now. But, if the opening game of the 2012 season was any indication, the Colts made the right move by cutting Justin Tryon loose.

As we all hoped more than a year ago, Peyton Manning was in the building as the final seconds of Super Bowl XLVI ticked down last night. Of course, our nightmare scenario was unfolding in front of our eyes, as well, with Tom Brady on the field with a minute left, driving his New England Patriots toward another Super Bowl victory. Except it didn’t happen. The New York Giants’ defense, nothing to write home about most of the year, came up big and stopped touchdown Tommy, who resorted to a last-second Hail Mary. Fail.

Quarterback Eli Manning took home the MVP award, although receiver Mario Manningham gave him a run for those roses with some big catches in the fourth quarter. Manning had a 103.8 rating for the night and led yet another late-game, come-from-behind drive to nab the big win.

Congrats, Giants! Congrats, Eli! Congrats, Indianapolis!
