Mandatory Mini-Camp Finishes for Indianapolis Colts

Now that mandatory mini-camp has come to a close, the Indianapolis Colts will have to begin deliberating on a bevy of new faces. Even with such a small amount of time to see what these new additions can do on the field, the coaching staff of the Colts has to start making decisions on who they will put where. With so many different bodies on the roster (especially on defense) the task of putting these pieces into place becomes that much more daunting.

The mandatory mini-camp this week gave the Colts their first chance to see two of their newest (and highly touted) free agent pickups, in safety LaRon Landry and newly acquired running back Ahmad Bradshaw. Bradshaw was on the field in a walking boot, but did not participate in practice. Landry had been out of the loop since signing in march, but he arrived to mini-camp ready to roll. Landry was all over the field during camp, even taking a few blitzes in the direction of quarterback Andrew Luck. Bradshaw will take some time yet to take the field, but even without pads, it’s good to see Landry coming out strong in practice.

On Wednesday, even fans got the chance to see an early look at the 2013 Indianapolis Colts. The Colts held a free open practice at Lucas Oil Stadium, with fans in attendance. With the season still months away, fans got to see how tough it may be for their coaching staff to trim down this talent-filled roster.

Now the Colts will have another six weeks to wait until they get together as a team for practice. By then, this roster could already have a different look than it does now. Indianapolis brought in bodies to fill holes on both sides of the ball, and now comes the time to start putting those pieces together.

Mandatory Minicamp Begins for Indianapolis Colts

On Tuesday, the Indianapolis Colts opened up their first mandatory minicamp of the 2013 season.

The minicamp brings this team together for the first time during the offseason. These practices will give Colts coaches a chance to see the players (both new and old) that will be battling for roster spots this Summer. The minicamp even includes a practice open to the public at Lucas Oil Stadium, where fans get to see a first glimpse of new additions like first round draft pick Bjoern Werner, and new free agent LaRon Landry and Ahmad Bradshaw.

The Colts have loaded up already this year, in order to solidify certain spots that were wavy last season. In order to improve, the Colts have initiated competition in several areas. The offensive and defensive lines both needed an upgrade from last year, and Indianapolis has made a point of putting players in competitive situations, with hopes of turning weaknesses into strengths.
