Following his second arrest in nearly a month’s time, the Detroit Lions terminated the contract of third-year defensive back Aaron Berry. Berry, who came into the league as an undrafted free agent in 2010, although talented, has obviously shown himself to be more trouble than he is worth.

The Lions had little choice in letting go of Berry, who was the seventh Detroit player to be arrested during this off season. This franchise on the rise had to try and save face, and someone had to be the scapegoat. Berry was an easy choice to cut loose, seeing as his rap sheet is longer than his accomplishments in the NFL. Early Saturday morning, Berry was arrested and charged with brandishing a gun at three people from his car. Less than a day before that, Berry had entered into a mandatory diversion program, based on a DUI arrest in June, when his BMW hit two parked cars.

The Indianapolis Colts are obviously thin at the corner back position. Even after trading for corner back D.J. Johnson, the Colts need no part of another short and speedy corner in their secondary, especially one with so many legal issues. Talented but troubled, Berry needs more guidance than opportunity, because he has obviously wasted the opportunities he has been offered so far.

The Indianapolis Colts have acquired corner back D.J. Johnson via a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Colts add Johnson by sending defensive tackle Ollie Ogbu to the Eagles. Ogbu was signed by the Colts in July of 2011, and spent all of last season on the practice squad. Hopefully Johnson, who himself spent 2011 on the Eagles practice squad, will be able to see the field in this upcoming season. Johnson will be added to assist a defense in transition, who is looking to rebound from being blown away last year. The move, although surprising by occurring less than a week from the beginning of training camp, will help to improve one of the thinnest areas of the Colts roster.

Johnson came into the league undrafted in 2009, and has bounced around on the practice squad for six other NFL teams. He may be asked to upgrade his role as a Colt, due to the simple lack of depth the Colts deal with at the CB position. The first thing that pops up about Johnson is his height, (6ft 1in) which literally puts him head and shoulders above many Colts corner backs of the past. Johnson will be given an opportunity to shine in the revamped Colts defense.
