I was at the game on Sunday, and it was the first time I had witnessed a Colts loss in person since Jim Mora was head coach. It was very sad. First, I want to say that the pass interference was bogus, but that isn’t why we lost the game. Having the ball for 18 minutes is what killed us. However, losing by two when the offense barely sees the field in the second half really shows how good this offense is. The defense can’t do anything without Bob Sanders, and that is sad. We need someone to step up. Here are three ways to make the 2008 defense look more like the 2007 unit than the 2006 unit.

1. Bench Clint Session: Do not let this man see the field as the strongside linebacker. He is a weakside linebacker and is out of position. He is being exploited for his bad tackling and poor play reading. Draws killed this team, and Session was a main reason why. He bid on everyone. I could see the draw coming, but apparently he couldn’t. Start Philip Wheeler in his place or sign Rob Morris. Session looks like Gilbert Gardner, the worst starter in the history of the Dungy-era Colts.

2. Forget about the pass defense: 8 men in the box every play, even if it is third and long. The next two QBs we face are Matt Schaub and Joe Flacco. I’m not scared of them. Sadly, I’m scared of Steve Slaton and LeRon McClain. If we can stop the run, then we can put seven men in the box. For now, put Bullitt in the box and have multiple spies on the running back. We would have won this game if we could have stopped the draw play. Sadly, we didn’t.

3. Make a Booger-esque trade: Free agency is all dried up, and we need to make a move. We have our second and third round draft picks. I think we could get a SAM linebacker from a Tampa 2 team. The teams that fit our style would be Chicago, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, Detroit, and Kansas City. Looking at their rosters and stats, and a player like Demmorio Williams from Kansas City or Ryan Nece from Detroit might do the trick, but there aren’t too many options. We need a new SAM though. I support signing Rob Morris, but I don’t know if that’s happening. If we don’t sign Morris, a trade has to go down.

4. Run the ball: The stretch is back and better than ever. It looks like that is why we couldn’t run. That and the fact that Jeff Saturday wasn’t playing. But with Saturday and the stretch back, Addai is looking great again. Now we have to run the ball. Put in Rhodes and Hart to keep all the backs fresh. We lost because we couldn’t get the Jags offense off of the field. We need to keep our offense on the field if we want to win.

These four changes could get the Colts winning again. Some of these may not happen, but if they do, expect to see the Colts playing in February.

The Colts, in an effort to be the anti-Pacers they have been since Dungy came to town, have gone to a huge extreme and CUT OUR FRICKIN’ STARTING NOSE TACKLE! That’s right. Ed Johnson, who has had his fair share of legal problems during his stint at Penn State, is gone.

Ed Johnson was regarded as being a first round talent who fell out of the draft because of his legal problems at Penn State. Johnson was the only defensive lineman to start all 17 games last season. He also won the Thomas W. Moses Sr./Noble Max Award, which not only has the coolest name out of any local award, but is given to, get this, a person “who has overcome adversity in his career, or whose on-field accomplishments exceeded normal expectations.”

Those adversities are back, and that’s why he is no longer a Colt.

I have one acronym to sum this up.

BBB: Bring Back Booger!

It’s been a few days since the humiliating loss to Da Bears, and the news keeps on getting worse for the Colts. Ed Johnson was arrested for speeding and possession of marijuana this morning. Coach Dungy has already said that he would be suspended for the Vikings game. That’s lovely. We just lost our best defensive tackle for a game against a team with possibly the best running back in football. This will only make the game tougher. I have one question about this arrest. He was speeding. He was pulled over for speeding. How did they find the pot? What made them suspect Johnson was smoking pot? He doesn’t look like any Pacers player I know of.

Here are some of the players that might replace him on the roster if that is necessary:

Booger McFarland. He was great with us, and he fits Johnson’s role perfectly. Hell, I say we sign him even if we don’t need to replace Johnson. I miss Booger.

Colin Ferrell. Let the bandwagon get rolling again. I’m the driver, who wants to come on board?

Rod Coleman. He’s a free agent, and he is perfect to play nosetackle (or overtackle, which ever one you prefer) in the Tampa 2. The only problem would be how much money he would ask for.

Montae Reagor. There is a difference in size, but maybe they could work it out. I would love to see Reagor come back.

The Colts don’t have a lot of options. They need Ed Johnson back. They can’t suspend him for a long period of time, or else there is no way we will win the South.

In slightly better news, Jeff Saturday may practice soon, and Dallas Clark’s MRI showed no structural damage on his knee, and he could possibly play this week against the Vikings. Saturday must be way ahead of schedule. It’s only been two and a half weeks since his knee injury. We need Dallas Clark to play against the Vikings. He’s the ultimate mismatch, and the game changes completely when he is out there. If Saturday could be back after the bye week, I would be estatic.

In weirder news, offensive line coach Howard Mudd is going to miss a few games because of knee surgery. If this is a bursa sac injury, I’m going to flip out.
