Jim Caldwell may be gone, but so too is Jeff Fisher, whom many thought would be a natural fit for the Indianapolis Colts head coaching job. We know that the offensive assistants won’t be promoted since they were fired yesterday. So, dear Colts fans, who might land in the chief chair for the 2012 season? Well among the many names that have surfaced in the wake of Caldwell’s demise are:

Marty Mornhinweg

Brad Childress

Steve Spagnuolo

Marc Trestman

Todd Bowles

Jim Tressel

Mike Zimmer

Jon Gruden

Bill Cowher

Wade Phillips

Dom Capers

Dennis Allen

Joe Philbin

There are all kinds of track records, personalities, and tea leaves in that bunch, so it all really just depends on owner Jim Irsay’s mood. It should make for good theater, though.
