Well today begins the many times of comparing the number one and number two draft picks of the NFL Draft. No matter what these guys say, you would think there’s a small part somewhere that says I want to do better than the other guy. Maybe that’s just the old school mentality in me wanting that. It’s like I’ve stated in my pieces about a rivalry, give us some hate in the process. Or some competitive spirit that says you know what I don’t like that guy across from me.

But knowing these two guys, you’ll probably get the cliched answers, and that’s fine for what it is. Let us fans pick which side of the fence we lean on, and we can decide who will have the better career. As a Colts fan, I’m heavily leaning on Luck, but I think Griffin can do well for who he is.

Sure it would be more fun if one guy was on defense and the other guy is on offense, but you know that people will look at stats and say who had the better game even if both guys aren’t playing the full game.

No matter how hard these guys try, they will be linked because of this draft. Unless it ends up like Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf, where one took off, and the other just didn’t take off.

It is a well-known fact that the Indianapolis Colts are reloading their team for the future. These transitions have not come easily, and are surely not totallly done, in the full efforts of a team in transition. The Colts have a lot of young and veteran talent to build on in the 2012-13 season. The Colts also have many holes to fill in hopes of plugging up a flood that could drown this franchise in the depths of the AFC South for years to come.

The Colts have more than just Luck or their side in the 2012-13 season. Seemingly every year for the last decade or more, there has been at least one or two NFL teams who have tanked one year and who have rose up the next. The Colts themselves were an indication of this anomaly, going 3-13 for two seasons straight in 1997 and 1998, then bouncing back to a 13-3 season. In 1999, the St Louis Rams did the same thing, bouncing from the bottom to the top, with a roster that has forever since been considered as the best team on turf.

Regardless of past histories, the Colts find themselves deadlocked in a division which they dominated for the best part of the last decade. The Colts were embarrassing on both sides of the football for most of the entire 2011-12 season. Still, one faulty season does not a team make.

The Colts have cut tough ties. This franchise has made several unfavorable moves in this off-season. This organization is rolling the dice with a new franchise quarterback, a new general manager, and a new coaching staff. The road to prosperity may seem rough, but in all honesty, how many teams in the AFC South can stop them?

Now that the Indianapolis Colts have their new starting rookie quarterback signed and locked up for at least four years, the true reloading process can officially begin and get underway. Everything that has lead up to this point was merely a precursor the beginning of what could be the dawning of a new age of success for the Indianapolis Colts with Andrew Luck and a company of fresh young talent.

Now that Luck has signed on the dotted line (around $22 million for four years, with a fifth-year option) the flood gates will open from all angels, and the true criticism will begin. All of the comparisons Luck has faced so far, will be small potatos compared to how every pass, pick, touchdown, win, and loss will be scrutinized in comparison to the gigantic shadow this young man has stepped into. The sad thing is, that none of these forced comparisons are Luck’s fault. Us in the media will force the same questions and measuring sticks into Luck’s face ad nauseum, week after week. all he can do is step into training camp with the Colts next week, and take control of this team, to be who he is as a player and not who every pundit and fan in the country wants or expects him to be.

Luck’s contract signing opens the door for the future of the Colts, and theoretically closes and locks another era behind it. Maybe some day, he echos of the past will quiet down. It might take some amazingly hard work and a lot of sucess for Andrew Luck to meet or exceed expectations from people outside of the Colts franchise, but he has already earned some respect by just handling the situation he was drafted into with positivity and patience.
