Indianapolis Colts Roster Moves

Following Thursday night’s preseason opener, the Indianapolis Colts made a number of changes to the roster heading into the weekend.

The Colts suffered a number of injuries in the opening game, and none was more serious than center Khaled Holmes. Holmes has a left ankle injury and was seen at practice today in a walking boot.

The depth of the offensive line is about to be seriously tested in the coming weeks, and likely throughout the season. The Colts really can’t afford to have another injury-plagued season.

The Colts signed three new players to the active roster. Center Thomas Austin, guard Marcus Hall, and recently released wide receiver Nu’Keese Richardson.

The team then waived guard Chad Anderson. They also waived-injured OLB Daniel Adongo and DT Jeris Pendleton, both of whom will move to the injured reserve list if they clear waivers. Cornerback Brandon Burton was waived off IR with an injury settlement.

Hall is another Ohio State product who started 25 games over his final two seasons as a Buckeye. He was also an honorable mention on the All-Big Ten team during a time when OSU won 24 games in a row, a school record. My thought has always been that if you can play offensive line in the Big Ten at a high level, you can play in the NFL.

Anderson played for the LA Kiss in arena league football. Both Anderson and Hall had been previously signed by the Colts. With the recent injuries across the line, these players will get a shot to prove they can play for Indy.

Many fans are disappointed that Adongo hasn’t exactly panned out as planned. He was always going to be a big project, but not getting reps on the field is really going to hurt his development. Adongo showed flashes of being an impressive player but now a serious bicep injury will send him to the sideline.

Pendleton’s injury will start to test the depth of the defensive line. With Fili Moala already on IR, the position is starting to feel a bit thin.

For a team that has preached a physical approach that starts in the trenches, those positions are not looking like an area of strength in 2014.
