Trent Richardson Aims to Give Indianapolis Colts More than 1,000 Yard Season

To this point, Indianapolis Colts running back Trent Richardson‘s NFL career can be classified as a huge disappointment. The third overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft didn’t last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns before a mid-season trade sent him to the Colts.

Richardson isn’t letting that cloud his vision for the upcoming season. He’s maintaining a high standard for himself and setting big goals. He touched on that subject during a media session on Monday.

I mean, 1,000’s not the goal. For me, it’s personal. I’m going to keep it to myself but just know 1,000 is not it for me. (Higher?) Yes, it’s higher. My goals are always going to be set high, my standards are going to be set higher. So when I say it like that, it means that I’m looking for the best and I’m looking for much more success. I know my fans and I know the media, they’re looking for more. The pressure I put upon myself is nothing but greatness.

Richardson fell 50 yards short of a 1,000 yard season as a rookie did so in 15 games. His season average of 63.3 yards per game would have had him cross the 1,000 yard mark as a rookie had he not missed the final game of the season.

The Colts haven’t had a 1,000 yard rusher since Joseph Addai in 2007, mostly as a result of moving away from featuring just one back. Richardson indicated early in training camp that he is much more comfortable in the offense and the loss of Vick Ballard to injury means Richardson will have plenty of chances to meet his goal.
