Indianapolis Colts to Begin New Era With 2014 NFL Draft

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

It’s the dawn of a new day for the NFL.

The 2014 NFL Draft is only a few days away, and every team in the league is clamouring until draft day, doing their final homework. The draft marks the first indication that each team has the chance to begin 2014 on an even playing field. Every team has needs, and these handful of draft picks will be expected to help some floundering franchises return to prominence.

Some teams have more draft selections than others. Teams like the St. Louis Rams come to mind, as they control the early round one draft selection , that originally belonged to the Washington Redskins. The Redskins would have the 2nd overall pick in the draft, but are still paying the Rams picks, for the rights to draft QB – Robert Griffin III, three seasons ago.

The Indianapolis Colts are in a similar situation with Washington. Neither the Colts or the Redskins have a round one pick, as the Cleveland Browns own Indianapolis’ 26th overall selection. Even though the Colts consider RB – Trent Richardson as their top draft pick, they still have to wait patiently, while over 50 other players are picked up. The Colts will also have to make the most of what they have, unless they try to trade up or down.

The Colts need help on their offensive line, especially after the surprise retirement of free agent C – Phil Costa. Indianapolis could also use safety help, as well as a wideout to groom, considering the inevitable retirement of WR – Reggie Wayne. Regardless of where they choose to make additions, these additions will be looked upon for help in the continuous building of Chuck Pagano’s “Monster”.
