During the 2013-14 NFL season, the Indianapolis Colts lost two important players due to injury. Dwayne Allen and Reggie Wayne. Both have the potential to be big play makers in this high powered offense. Allen has shown to have better blocking skills than counterpart Coby Fleener. Wayne has shown that he can play at a level as high as any receiver in the league. Two big assets that were missing down the stretch last season.

Dwayne Allen Had a good rookie year. In 2012 he averaged over 11 yards per reception. Some analysts were talking about getting rid of Fleener who struggled in his first season. In the first game of the 2013 season, Allen injured his hip. Allen didn’t play another game the rest of the season. Fleener eventually stepped up and showed fans that there is some potential worth tapping into. However, not having Allen was still a huge loss.

Reggie Wayne didn’t get injured until week 7 of last season. His injury proved to be more devastating to the Colts. Wayne had been setting the standard as the number one wide receiver. The threat of Wayne allowed for T. Y. Hilton to get more looks from Andrew Luck. Together they helped spread the defense. After Wayne’s injury teams could easily double Hilton with little risk from other receivers.

There is good news for the Indianapolis Colts. Allen has been claiming that he’s ready to play. He even said that he was 100 percent. With Allen back the Colts have a lot more options. With Fleeners improvements last season, the Colts may have the best two tight end team in the NFL. Pep Hamilton can be very creative with his offense.

Reggie Wayne also seems to be ready to get back in action. He’s also has a mission. He’s out to prove all the doubters wrong. Wayne has been adamant from the very beginning that he is planning on returning just as strong if not stronger.

Even though Wayne could not get back on the field after his injury, he continued to support the team. He lead the Colts young wide receiving corps to make significant improvements. Improvements that they would not have made without his leadership. Hopefully the Colts will be able to combine those improvements with Wayne’s skills on the field this season.

There’s a lot of draft talk around the entire NFL. Who will the Colts draft with their second round pick? Let’s not lose sight of two gains this year who are already on the roster. With new additions through the draft and free agency, these two will add the biggest support to the 2014 Colts offense.
