What Does the Retirement of C – Phil Costa Mean to the Indianapolis Colts?

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts have already hit a bump in the road.

On the day when the team gets together for their first offseason team activities, the word has come down that newly acquired center, Phil Costa, has decided to retire from the NFL. The Colts recently brought Costa in from NFL free agency, hoping to have him help solidify the center position. Regardless of the reasoning, this loss leaves the Colts with a big hole, in a place where they need a lot of help.

Costa (26 years-old) retired, rather than be a Colt. The center went undrafted in 201o, and only played in four seasons, as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. The Colts brought Costa into the fold last month, offering him a two-year deal.

Indianapolis now sits very stale in the center position. Should the Colts take a center in the 2014 NFL Draft? Should they try to take a swing at another veteran center? Either way, the Colts have a tough choice to make.
