Do the Indianapolis Colts Need RB – Chris Johnson?

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts might have to take a look at bringing a former foe into the fold.

The Tennessee Titans have released star RB – Chris Johnson, and even though the release raises questions, the end result is basic. Johnson, arguably the Titans’ top weapon for the last six seasons, is now on the NFL free agency market. Should teams be curious or cautious, when considering this addition?

The Colts have already decided what they expect their stable of running backs to be in 2014. Indianapolis let their leading rusher, Donald Brown get picked up by the San Diego Chargers. The team decided to keep three other rushers, although each one still has production issues. Both Vick Ballard and Ahmad Bradshaw are looking to return from season-ending injuries. Trent Richardson was traded for the Colts’ top pick in this year’s NFL Draft (26th overall), and has been overwhelmingly disappointing.

Johnson’s best years may be behind him, but he could still have a resurgence with a new team. We are still talking about a back who rushed for over 1,000 yards in every year of his career. The Indianapolis Colts have felt Johnson’s wrath, but they don’t really need to take the risk of bringing him into the franchise.
