Indianapolis Colts will host Kurt Coleman

Despite the remarks from Chuck Pagano, it looks like the Indianapolis Colts are looking for safeties outside of the draft. Ian Rapoport of the NFL network sent out a tweet last night stating

Kurt Coleman is set to visit the #Colts Friday…

Kurt Coleman has been a safety with the Philadelphia Eagles for the past four years. He hasn’t had a stellar career, but he hasn’t been bad either. His best season was back in 2011 when he put up 78 combined tackles and four interceptions. He could help out some in the position, but he doesn’t appear to be  the long term answer that the Colts need.

Ryan Grigson is familiar with Coleman. Grigson was with the Eagles organization before coming to Indianapolis. He was the director of player and personnel for the Eagles in 2010 when they drafted Coleman. Just prior to that he was the director of college scouting. You can be sure that Grigson was heavily involved in the scouting and drafting process of Kurt Coleman.

Will the Indianapolis Colts sign Kurt Coleman? More than likely. So far during this free agency the Colts have shown that they’re not going to bring someone to Indianapolis without having a serious offer for them. Also, Grigson knows Coleman. He knows if Coleman is what he’s looking for. He doesn’t need to meet with him to know whether or not he wants to bring him on board.

With Coleman leaving the New York Jets and not having a deal, chances are that by the end of the day he’ll be a Colt. I wouldn’t expect a huge deal or contract, but I would expect something. Hopefully Coleman can come in and be more than just a fill in. Maybe in a different city and a different system, he can have the best years of his career in Indianapolis.
