New Indianapolis Colt: Henoc Muamba

The Indianapolis Colts recently signed new linebacker Henoc Muamba. This seems to be a great addition for the Colts. Muamba had reportedly been gathering interest from several NFL teams including the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens. Muamba comes to the Colts from the CFL where he spent three seasons playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He finished the year second in the league in tackles with 106. That’s impressive by itself, but even more impressive considering he was on the worst team in the league. He was also selected for last years CFL all-star team.

Muamba has shown improvement over each season in the CFL. Muamba was the first overall pick in the CFL’s 2011 draft and at the time it was predicted that he would be a superstar. He has surely shown that kind of potential so far. His time in college wasn’t wasted. He became St. Francis Xavier’s all time sack leader, while becoming three time all Canadian. In 2010 he was also awarded the CIS (Canada’s version of the NCAA) defensive player of the year.

Muamba has shown a lot of potential and improvement so far and the Colts are hoping to capitalize on that and build a champion level defense. Muamba is OK with being a champion. When speaking to his church in 2012 he told them that he was living to be a champion. He told them that to become a champion you had to know who you are, the path you choose and you had to have a champion level work ethic. This attitude will fit in greatly with the Colts organization.

Muamba is not only known for his physical abilities on the field. He is also known for his character off the field. He has high standards for himself and lives to serve his community and those around him. He is vocal about his Christian faith and attempts to live that out. He was awarded the Ed Kotowich ‘Good Guy’ Award in 2013. This is an award that recognizes players who are positive influences on and off the field. He also started the Muamba Perfect 10 program where he brought in underprivileged kids to a free CFL game and them spoke with them personally after the game.

A guy like Muamba will be a great addition to the Indianapolis Colts, the Colts locker room and to the Indianapolis community. This is a trend that we have seen by other Colts figures in the past and it looks like the organisation still holds the same values. Hopefully he can raise his play even more in Indy and bring another championship home.
