Indianapolis Colts Have an Offensive Defense

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

There is obviously something very wrong with the defense of the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts have won the AFC South title, and are guaranteed at least one home game in the AFC Playoffs. Still, there are serious fundamental problems in both the scheme and production of the Indianapolis defense. This team has suffered through various injuries on both sides of the ball, but that doesn’t account for the flat play of the defense. The Indianapolis offense has dealt with many more serious injuries, and still seems to put up points. The defense, however, has almost totally fell off the map.

Over their last nine games, the Colts have given up over 20 points seven times. In those seven games, the Indianapolis defense have given up over 30 points five times. The odd thing is, that Indianapolis has still somehow won five games out of that nine-game span. Their 8-5 record is still impressive enough to take the lowly AFC South, even though they have lost four out of their last eight games.

Indianapolis can’t expect to do much in the post season, unless they try to fix these issues. It seems so long ago that this team held both the San Francisco 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars to a total of ten points, in consecutive weeks. That defense is still around somewhere, but Indianapolis has to find it.
