Indianapolis Colts Show What They are Capable Of

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts played at a very high level last Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. The Colts will have a hard time rising up with the same acclaim that they did in their first road game of the season, but if they did, it would be amazing to watch.

The Colts literally played a near-perfect game on the road against the 49ers, rebounding well from their first loss of the season. The Colts toppled the 49ers, following their first loss to the Miami Dolphins in a decade. At San Francisco, the Colts controlled the time of possession, and led the game in rushing yards, as well as passing yardage. Indianapolis committed zero turnovers, only had one penalty, and allowed only seven points. Sunday’s game also marked the first time that the 49ers have lost back-to-back contests, since being coached by Jim Harbaugh.

Indianapolis scored three rushing touchdowns by three different players in the 49ers win. The Colts have not had three rushing touchdowns in a single game since 2008. Wide receiver Reggie Wayne continued to add to his legacy, and rose up the all-time receptions chart, with his 986th career catch. Wayne is now  8th all-time in career receptions, and has caught three-or-more passes in a league-leading 67 games.

The Indianapolis Colts have yet to totally show what they are capable of, but last Sunday’s sample size was an awesome indication of what could be coming up. The Colts travel to the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, for their first division game of this season. If the Colts can hit their stride, then they will be looking very formidable, heading into the toughest part of their schedule. Following the Jaguars, Indianapolis will face the Seattle Seahawks, and also will host Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Both the Broncos and the Seahawks could be undefeated when they meet the Colts, and both team will have to be on their toes to win.
