Instead of trimming the fat, the Indianapolis Colts have decided to beef-up their roster of wide receivers.
On Monday, the Colts signed wide receiver Maurice Williams. Williams (6’1” 195lbs) has spent the his pro career in the AFL, with the Cleveland Gladiators and Orlando Predators. Williams played with the Gladiators from 2012-2013, before being picked up by the Predators. Although Williams is listed as a wide receiver, he also played on defense and special teams.
The signing of Williams at the point is curious, as the team is on the verge of making preliminary cuts to slim down the preseason roster. On top of that, the wide receiver position for the Colts right now is arguably their deepest, as well as their least-injured spot on the roster. Perhaps the Colts may use Williams for some of his other talents on the field, or maybe some of the receivers on the fringe of the roster aren’t showing the coaching staff what they want to see.
