Indianapolis Colts Agree to Terms With Wide Out Darrius Heyward-Bey

After a week’s worth of consideration and indecision, some surpising news came out of the Indianapolis Colts’ camp. On Monday, the Colts confirmed that they have agreed to terms with free agent wide receiver, Darrius Heyward-Bey. Heyward-Bey visited the Colts early last week, but then went to talk with the Detroit Lions. First indications seemed to state that the free agent was leaning towards the Lions as opposed to the Colts.

On Monday, Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson spoke about the new aquisistion. “He’s big, strong, and shows toughness in traffic and after the catch. He’s got elite finishing speed that’s as good as there is in the NFL. With this staff, this team and overall culture we’re building here in Indy, we felt strongly that he was the right player and person at the wide receiver position for us moving forward.”

It may seem like an April fool’s joke for the Colts to be bringing in a receiver who has averaged less than three touchdowns and 35 receptions a year, in four pro seasons. The deal is reportedly a single-year contract, which could be worth up to $3 million, so Indianapolis may not be risking too much for too long. If Heyward-Bey can revamp his career with the Colts, then Indianapolis may have just found the field-stretching speedster that they have been looking for.
