Darrius Heyward-Bey Didn't Click With Indianapolis Colts

The visit to Indianapolis earlier this week by free agent wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey didn’t seem to fit quite right for either party. Heyward-Bey traveled to speak with the Indianapolis Colts, in hopes of finding a home, after being released by the Oakland Raiders. Heyward-Bey then went to visit the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, and initial indications seem to be more positive for the wide out in Michigan, than they were in Indiana.

The receiver, who has never really lived up to his status as the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, seemed more interested in being a Lion, as opposed to being a Colt. More than that, Heyward-Bey seemed especially excited about possibly playing with Detroit quarterback, Matthew Stafford.

After his visit to Detroit, Heyward-Bey spoke about his interest in being a part of the high-powered Lions offense.  “It’s very appealing,” Heyward-Bey said. “It would be nice to be a part of something like that. I just got to sit back and think about it.”

If Heyward-Bey does decide to sign with Detroit, then it’s really no big loss for the Colts. Heyward-Bey was drafted high by the Raiders because of his speed, but that was also four years ago. The field at Lucas Oil Stadium fits a speedy player perfectly, but the Colts already have receivers on their roster that can offer the same talents that Heyward-Bey does.

For now, the Colts will continue to search.
