2013 NFL Scouting Combine: Offensive Linemen

One of the biggest issues for the Indianapolis Colts last season was the offensive line. The Colts not only dealt with constant injuries on the line, but also with constant inconsistency. There’s little doubt that the Colts looked long and hard at several offensive lineman during the NFL Scouting Combine last week at Lucas Oil Stadium.

There were several top-performers in the bench press that were from the offensive line, led by guard Eric Herman from Ohio. Herman was tied for the fourth-highest production in the bench press, with 36 reps. There were also seven other offensive linemen that recorded over 30 reps in the bench press competition.

2013 was also a record-breaking year for offensive lineman in the 40-yard dash. Offensive tackle Terron Armstead from Arkansas-Pine Bluff set the all-time fastest 40-yard dash for an offensive lineman, with a 4.71 dash time. Armstead was the second lineman to break the dash record for his position this year. Lane Johnson, offensive tackle from Oklahoma, came in just behind Armstead, with a time of 4.72 in the 40-yard dash.

Offensive lineman are getting bigger and faster. The Colts have talent on their line, but they need consistency. If they can pick up another young player to put on their offensive line, then hopefully they can help mold him into helpful stability for the near future.
