Offensive Line Injuries Crippled the Indianapolis Colts

As the season progresses, every NFL team has to deal with their fair share of injuries. As the playoffs approach, almost every player in the league finds themselves either playing through or sidelined by various injuries. How these teams and players deal with and work around thses injuries, seems to show how they will look an perform at the end of the season.

By the end of the season, the offensive line injuries for the Indianapolis Colts could have rivaled any emergency room in the country. The Colts found themselves swapping offensive lineman in and out from the very beginning of the season. Do to various injuries throughout the season, the Colts found themselves putting in new pices on the offensive line week after week. This situation, compounded by starting a rookie quarterback, made a difficult regular season seem nearly impossible. The fact that the Colts still ended up winning 11 games is not only impressive, its almost unimaginable.

The Colts will have many decisions to make, now that their season has ended. The choices on the offensive line will be a major focus in the offseason. There are players, like veteran Winston Justice, who looked good prior to injury, but have to deal with expiring contracts. There are rookies, like center A.Q. Shipley, who filled in well when called upon in a flash. The Indianapolis Colts have a lot of talent on their offensive line, and they obviously needed all of it this season. The big decision for next year, will be to try and find who can play the best, and stay healthy at the same time.

One of the main reasons our lineman get hurt so often is because they suck something awful. They’re all agile blockers with NO strength and they constantly get blown off the line and off balance, this of course is what results in them getting a lot of ankle and shoulder injuries from being thrown off balance and allowing lineman to get their hands under their pads to do with them as they please. Luck was hurried more times this year than any other QB in the league and if it weren’t for the fact that he’s a 240 pound oak tree he would’ve been sacked the most as well instead of just 3rd most. I think you re-sign Shipley and Justice at the right price for depth not too start, and other than Castonzo id say gut the whole line as most of those men shouldn’t be playing in the NFL let alone starting.

Yes suck is a good word for most of those stiffs….
      Agree with your assessment completely.

Good Points, Dale…it’s tough to say who’s ready to keep and who’s ready to hit the bricks on this line. There was no game this season where the line as a whole looked good, and although I agree with your opinions, I still believe that some of it has to do with the constant shuffling. If this team had a solid unit to work with, it may have been better. Perhaps drafting a lineman is in their future, but that hasn’t quite worked out with Anthony Castanzo just yet either. Time will tell, but it definately needs to be adressed…thanks for the input.

Castonzo is just fine….he was out on an island quite a bit and probably could have used a little more help on occasion. Ballard is not a very good blocker either.

Did you say talent on the O-line?
Colts need at least three new linemen….T G and C will do for starters.
Luck spent the entire year under constant extreme pressure. That is the worst line I have seen in thirty years!
The entire group whether with the excuse of injuries or not (except for Castonzo) stunk it up pretty bad!
Grigson has a pile of dough to pick up a couple of solid Offensive linemen in FA.
Or if the right player….whether guard or tackle is on the board at pick 25 he should probably grab him.
