“Black Monday” Hits the Indianapolis Colts

After waiving 11 players on Sunday night, the Indianapolis Colts added 5 more cuts to thin out their roster. By Monday evening, each team in the NFL had to reduce their roster size to 75 players. The Colts will continue to make preaseason cuts throughout the week, before finalizing their regular season roster. By Friday night, each NFL team will have to reduce their current rosters to 53 players for the 2012 season.

On Monday, the Colts placed offensive tackle George Foster, nose tackle Brandon McKinney, and wide out Griff Whalen on the Injured Reserve List.  Offensive guard  Justin Anderson was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.  Nose tackle Josh Chapman was also placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list.

On Sunday, the Colts began to make the necessary cuts, by trimming down the cornerbacks and the safety position. Four cornerbacks and two safeties were dropped from the roster. The team had to make moves to keep roster space open for newly aquired cornerback Vontae Davis.

The offensive side of the ball took a hit as well, with wide out Quan Cosby, running back Alvester Alexander, guard Jason Foster, and punter Brian Stahovich being cut from the team.
