Well, I guess we know whether or not the Colts will still pursue undrafted free agents this season. The Pigskin Report notes tonight that Indianapolis has already agreed to terms with Rutgers safety Joe Lefged.
I’m not really familiar with Lefged, but scouting reports generally rate him with decent speed and as a good pass coverage guy who may be inconsistent in his tackling. Another knock is that he’s undersized for an NFL safety, which probably contributes to his troubles in run coverage. Still, the consensus seems to be that he is a really good special teams player and has the potential to develop into a starter on defense, given a little more experience. Sounds like another Colts special to me!
