Texans A Threat…Ha!

by Colts

Amobi OkoyeThe Texans will be making history this season: they will start a QB other than David Carr. Matt Schaub, backup in Atlanta, will be taking these snaps, but instead of trying to beef up the offense, Houston’s giving the defense a little chin-up treatment in drafting their first 2007 pick in Amobi Okoye out of Louisville (pic of Okoye taking down a Cane at right).

Gary Kubiak finds himself in his second year as Texan head coach, and coming off a 6-10 record, falling one win short of tying a franchise season record of 7 wins. He’s got tough new talent to play with, so are the Texans going to be a threat in 2007? Will they make some waves in the AFC South with a dismal Titans defense (ranked 32nd last year) and a injured and aging Jacksonville squad?

Time’s going to tell, but one thing’s for sure…the Colts should feel a little safer in their division this year if the Texans have become a “threat.”

I'd have to agree that the AFC South is getting pretty comparable to the NFC North when it comes to raw talent and overall playoff appearances, but in no way does it downplay the fact that the Bears and the Colts, the best teams in the worst divisions, made it to the Super Bowl and dominated pretty much all season.

When did the AFC south become so weak?  If were not carefule they are going to start talking us like were in the NFC North.  I know I know.  The Bears are in the NFC north, but seriously, so are the vikings, the packers, and the Lions, and they are considered the worst conference in the NFL.  Honestly I hope the Texans do become a threat, and I mean a real threat, not a "Peyton Manning didn't throw 6 TD's and dwight freeney only sacked Shaub 3 times threat", or a "The Colts didn't show up today" kind of threat.  It just gives us more practice for the playoffs, and playing against teams that "WANT" to win.  Because right now teams in the AFC south when they play the colts are just hoping they do good enough to get a wild card spot.
